AN- Well, I received Smallville seasons 2-5 for Christmas and after watching Phoenix the plot bunnies bit and won’t let go.

Alone

R.I.P. LEX

The headline screamed off the Daily Planet, burning its image into Kal’s mind. He briefly scanned the article on pages 1, 2, 3 and 5 which mainly featured Lex’s career at LexCorp and LuthorCorp, along with his two short lived marriages.

Biting back a snarl, Kal punched the side of the newspaper stand, leaving a deep dent. Ignoring gaping stares from onlookers, Kal got onto his bike, roaring into traffic.

When Kal got to his apartment, he took out one of the few things he’d brought from Smallville. It was a picture of him and Lex at Lex’s first wedding. A rare smile came to Kal’s face as he remembered that day.

Lex wrapped his arm around Clark’s shoulders, pulling him close. “Did you ever think I would settle down this fast Clark?” Lex asked as a photographer approached them.

“Not really,” Clark admitted as the photographer snapped off several pictures. “I couldn’t believe it when you told me.”

Lex merely grinned. “I can hardly believe it myself… but,” he said as he gazed adoringly at Desiree. “I’ve never felt like this before.”

“I’m happy for you Lex, really.” Clark hared lying to his best friend, but he thought Lex was making a huge mistake.

“Thanks Clark. Listen, since the quarterback’s out of the picture why don’t you ask Lana to dance?”

“I might just do that…”

With a guttural yell Kal flung the picture into the wall, leaving a dent. The frame nothing but dust and the glass turned into a fine powder. Breathing heavily, Kal’s gaze landed on the picture and started to use heat vision, until the searing pain on his chest stopped him from doing so. Gasping in pain, Kal pulled off his Red K ring.

Clark groaned softly, mentally cursing Jor-El, loathing his biological father. He’d gone to so many lengths to not become what Jor-El wanted; he’d managed to push everyone he loved away.

He was alone.

Jor-El made sure of that.

XxX

Clark slid yet another box onto the moving van, with each box, he grew more depressed. He’d just come home and he was leaving the one place he’d always known again. He turned, his gaze falling on…

“Lex?” Clark asked in disbelief. He could hardly believe what he was seeing. His heart hammered in his chest, hoping he wasn’t dreaming.

“Three months on a deserted island was almost worth it to see the look on your face right now.” Lex said with a small grin as he closed the gap between them.

Clark embraced Lex tightly, wanting to make sure he was real. “We thought you died.”

“Apparently fate has bigger plans for me,” Lex said as they pulled apart.

“I’m glad you’re all right,” Clark said, unable to wipe the smile off his face.

“Thanks Clark…” Lex leaned slightly. “I know your secret.”

Clark felt his heart studder, and not in a good way. “W-what?”

“It’s okay Clark, I’m not mad,” Lex said. “In fact I’m rather flattered.”

Clark eyed Lex warily. “Uh, what are you talking about?”

“You’re in love with me,” Lex said matter-of-factly. “But I think it would be better if we just stayed friends., okay?”

“Uh, yeah… sure…” Clark mumbled.

Lex smiled. “Look, I’d like to stay but I’ve got to go, we’ll catch up later, sound good?”

“Yeah, can’t wait.” He watched Lex drive away, feeling a twisting pain in his chest. He wasn’t surprised at Lex’s rejection, but it hurt nonetheless. Clark sighed, no matter what he chose for his life he couldn’t be involved with anyone, there would be too many secrets. He hated that no matter what…

… he was alone.

The end

AN2- I realize this is a tad AU and maybe a bit OOC so apologies for that. This is my first Smallville fic so be gentle but truthful. Thanks.
